Fundraising Auction

auction to bring More dogs home

Fast Friends’ mission is to bring retired racing Greyhounds and other sighthounds (galgos, podengos, whippets, lurchers, and more) from places where they have almost no chance of a local adoption to loving homes with our network of qualified adopters.

International rescue is expensive, but these dogs need us more than ever and we won’t turn our back on them. The Auction is an important—and fun!—way to raise the money needed for flights, vet visits, and more.

Join the auction

The fundraising Auction starts on March 28 and runs through 11:00 am (EST) on Saturday, April 6. All bidding will take place on Facebook, so make sure you join our Facebook group to follow and bid in the auction.

If you’re never participated in a Facebook auction before, they’re lots of fun! A full “how-to” will be posted before the Auction begins.

If you have items you would like to donate to the Auction, please contact fastfriends@helpinggreyhounds.org.

Who are the dogs that come to Fast Friends?

  • Irish and Australian Greyhounds: Simply put, there are far more dogs than local homes. So many Greyhounds retire from racing each year that rehoming groups are overwhelmed, with waiting lists of young, healthy dogs needing a place to go.

  • Spanish Galgos and Podencos: Rabbit-hunting is still popular in rural areas, and Galgos and Podencos are the sighthounds of choice for this “sport.” Overbred and undervalued, any dog not successful enough is killed, often cruelly. The lucky ones are turned loose on the street or in the fields to fend for themselves.

  • Portuguese Podengos: Used for hunting, Podengos are often treated roughly, with little care to their physical comfort or emotional needs. These sensitive, intelligent sighthounds are kept caged or chained, and brutally killed or dumped in the countryside when no longer considered useful.

  • Chinese meat trade survivors: It was impossible to bring these dogs to the US for years during and after the global pandemic. We are in touch with our partners and working on options so we can go back to helping these deserving dogs.

  • and so many, many more. All of these dogs make wonderful companions, and working together, we can give them a second chance at the life they should have had all along.
