Zara Emergency Surgery

It's every Greyhound owner's nightmare … one minute your dog is happily doing zoomies, then suddenly they scream and drop to the ground. This is just what happened to Zara during her playtime on Friday. She sustained an open wound fracture with the bone exposed that needed to be stabilized immediately, so she spent the night at the trauma vet and has been at a veterinary hospital ever since. The plan was to repair the injury with a plate and pins, but when the surgeon began she found the damage to be too extensive to repair. Zara is now a tripod.

ZARA'S SURGERY COSTS ARE OVER $11,000 plus her medications and followup care. Your generosity in responding to our original post was enough to make a deposit so the surgery could be scheduled, but we still have a huge bill to pay. Zara was in pain and at serious risk for infection and we just couldn't wait.

*Zara is a young dog, just 6 years old, and the injury is NOT from osteo. She is cancer-free. She stumbled in the play yard and twisted just the wrong way, ending up with a really devastating injury.*
