Only YOU can keep the Greyhounds coming to Fast Friends

So many retired racers need homes, and we have a beautiful facility built just for them. To manage costs, we are running at half capacity. Greyhounds have stopped coming to Fast Friends. We need your help now to keep finding homes for these wonderful, amazing dogs we love so much.

The last time Greyhounds arrived at Fast Friends was July ninth. Ernest, Kira, Auri, and Sooky already are adopted and we’re sure Glory and Sabbath will be reserved soon. Since then, we’ve had four opportunities to bring more dogs in, but were forced to say “no” each time.

Running a kennel of 40 adoptable dogs has become too expensive. Just like in our personal lives, costs for everything in the dogs’ lives have gone up: food, medicines, electricity, gas, and more. We trimmed our budget as much as we could, but it wasn’t enough.

Two weeks ago, we made the agonizing decision to only house 20 Greyhounds instead of 40. With only half as many dogs to care for, some of our expenses will go down. Hopefully, that will be enough. We don’t want our numbers to drop to 15, 10, or even fewer. There are too many retired racers who need a place to go.

Greyhounds leave racing every single day, and the rehoming groups in Australia are full. Many even have waiting lists, dogs who are staying at their training kennels and not meeting any prospective families. We made a commitment to our Australian partners, and, with the end of racing in New Zealand, they need us more than ever to make sure the Greyhounds find homes quickly and don’t wait and wait for their retirement to begin.
